Horror Filmmakers Compete for Universal Prize

Two, count 'em TWO San Diego horror filmmakers are finalists in the 2011 Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights Short Film competition. Watch the films and vote now!

Universal Studios culled entries from across the country, then director Eli Roth, Variety senior writer Marc Graser, and Universal Studios Hollywood creative director John Murdy narrowed the field to ten finalists. Amazingly, two of the finalists are San Diego horror filmmakers: Nicolas Simonin and Brent Bokovoy. Woo-hoo!

Simonin had his deliciously creepy film "Derailed" showcased at Horrible Imaginings Film Festival in 2010. Now he has cut that short down to the even shorter "Eric." Bokovoy's smartly shot entry is "Monster in my Swimming Pool." It's a tough choice but make sure you vote and show your support for San Diego's horror filmmakers.

In addition to the $1000 cash prize, the winning filmmaker will receive two tickets to this year's event, and an exclusive invitation to the opening night "Eyegore Awards" ceremony. A big congrats to Nicolas and Brent! This makes me so proud of the San Diego indie horror community.
