Viejas Casino Announces Hotel Project

A 150-room hotel will be built adjacent to the Viejas casino, where the Bingo Pavilion is currently located, tribal officials announced today.

Construction will begin in the first quarter of next year. When completed in early 2013, the hotel will have a pool, fitness room and business center.

The construction plans also include expansion to the seating area of the Harvest Buffet.

The project is expected to create more than 400 construction jobs and additional ongoing positions when the hotel opens for business.

"A project like this takes on added significance in a challenging economic environment, where every new job means so much to local families and the local economy," said Scott Alevy, chief executive of the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce.

"Beyond the local construction jobs, this new hotel will have a positive impact on local businesses that provide goods and services to Viejas Casino, the retail center and now the hotel," he said.

Swinerton Inc., which has built other hotels in the region, was selected to be the general contractor.
