Such is the price we pay to keep our cars fueled with Middle East oil. I hope we think it was worth it as we drive while texting.

No, I'm not being cynical. Do you really think we were there for the good of Iraq?

David65, I didn't agree with your comments about Arpaio in another article, but I do agree here.

I think anyone with an ounce of intelligence understands what the Iraq War boiled down to.

While losing lives in battle is always hard, there is something even more difficult in accepting it occurred in an **UNNECESSARY** war that we were led into by lies.

So much loss of life and money and for what? Hussein was a brutal dictator and he was committing human rights abuses particularly against the Kurds, but he did not pose a direct threat to the United States and was not involved in 9-11. As a nation I think we should have pursued policy to stop Hussein's human rights abuses, but launching an all-out ground war was the wrong thing to do.

People in countries throughout the world are being abused by corrupt and brutal dictators, why was Iraq singled out?

As David said: OIL.

It is really convenient when an oil producing country also happens to be run by a regional thug who is brutalizing some of his populace. It gives war-mongering cowards like Dick Cheney a cover, they can hide under the guise of "he was a mean person" and completely avoid the real issue of oil.

And the sad thing about the fools that brought us into this war in Iraq is they couldn't even get the corruption right.

So, as I wrote above, we were lied to and brought into a war about oil, so you would think we would have at least profited from it somehow?

**WRONG**.

Despite Bush-Cheney telling us the war would pay for itself, Bush left office with a wrecked American economy and an Iraq that had new infrastructure and billions of dollars in cash reserved paid for by U.S. Tax Payers.

So as we fight to keep our social security and health care for U.S. citizens, and as we deal with infrastructure in our own country crumbling, a decade went by where over a TRILLION dollars of our money was poured into this one foreign country.

To hear the current Republican contenders praising this war and suggesting Obama is "cutting and running" (with the exception of Ron Paul) is absurd. Obama should have had us out of Iraq sooner, not drag it out for more years like the Republicans apparently want.

The Iraq War will go down in history right next to the Vietnam War - a tragic loss of American life and wealth.

And to my last statement above, we also must not forget the tragic loss of innocent Vietnamese and Iraqi lives during these two wars.

A truly despicable stain on world history.

No one is forgetting our great troops EVER. But the tragedy is that our great troops are used by our slime bag politicians for no good reasons . Think Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq.
Clearly our political slime bags learned nothing from Vietnam where 58000 of our troops were killed , and about 2 million Vietnamese were killed in that WAR.
Notice in recent days these slime bag politicians refer to the WAR in IRAQ as a "Military Mission" while conducting their staged muted ceremony to end the IRAQ war, This ceremony took place in a secured antiseptic concrete yard in Baghdad.. There were no cheering flag waving masses.
As opposed to Shock -n-Awe when we rained down bombs and missiles on Baghdad and the rest of IRAQ. And our idiot Pres Bush announced "Mission Accomplished" while prancing round the deck of a carrier in front of that stupid banner. "Mission Accomplished". Yet the IRAQ war continued for 8 more years after his PR propaganda event on the carrier...
Slime bags all , but the question is how do the American people change this war mongering mind set. Kick out all these slime bags and replace them with what , a new crop of the same breed.. Sadly that will not happen so prepare yourselves for the next WAR which they will start. Does IRAN comes to mind ?
