The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County recorded its largest daily increase since Feb. 25 today, rising 4 cents to $3.913, the highest since June 15.
The 13th increase in 14 days pushed the average price 15.9 cents higher than one week ago, 9.4 cents above what it was one month ago and 86.1 cents greater than at this time last year, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
"Gas prices have gone up around the country over the past week, but not by double digits as we've seen in California,'' said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
"Refinery issues are being blamed for the spike and unfortunately that means holiday travelers will be paying prices for their Labor Day fuel that are near or beyond what they paid in 2008, our record-breaking year for gas prices.''
