The Southern California Automobile Club says San Diego is the destination for the region's holiday travelers during the Fourth of July week.
SAN DIEGO The July 4th week will be a driving holiday for more than three-quarters of those planning to travel.
The Southern California Automobile Club said more than 3 million people will be taking a vacation this week. That's the highest number in a decade.
The club said the number of holiday travelers is up 5.2 percent over last year.
"Part of that is, of course, people feeling better about spending money on travel," said Marie Montgomery of the Southern California Automobile Club. "And the other part of it may also be, because the holiday falls in the middle of the week, people feel like stretching it out and adding some vacation days."
San Diego is the top destination, followed by Las Vegas and San Francisco.
Nationally, nearly 42.5 million people plan to do some traveling over the Fourth of July.
