Coaster Train Decorated To Honor Military Members, Veterans
Friday, November 9, 2012
A Coaster train car with a special wrap to honor military members and veterans went into service today.
The unveiling came as the North County Transit District launched a weekend of free fares for active-duty military members and veterans on its buses and trains. Family members can ride for half-price.
The design includes some red, white and blue and depictions of uniformed servicemen and women giving salutes. The car carries the caption, "We Salute You.''
"I think it's great looking and it's a great way to honor people who are in the military and saving our country,'' an unidentified woman said when she saw the train car, which will remain wrapped for a year.
The NCTD's Frances Schnall said the train car and fare promotion is a public show of gratitude.
"As a former Marine and Vietnam veteran, I fully understand how meaningful it is to have the support and backing of the community,'' said Supervisor Bill Horn, vice chairman of the NCTD Board of Directors. "Through the free weekend and the train wrap, North County Transit is telling each and every member of the military in San Diego how much we appreciate their service and value their commitment.''
