A U.S. pilot died in a plane crash in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday.

According to a NATO International Security Assistance Force news release, the site of the plane crash was located and the pilot's remains recovered:

While the cause of the crash is under investigation, initial reporting indicates there was no insurgent activity in the area at the time of the crash.

It is ISAF policy not to release the nationality of coalition casualties. However, the Air Force Times reports the pilot was American and the plane that crashed was a U.S. Air Force F-16.
