Organization Provides Health Care To Poorest People In The World

Dr. Paul Farmer is a physician and medical anthropologist who co-founded Partners in Health, which brings health care to poor people around the world.

We're all used to seeing the images of sick and desperate people in the poorest nations of the world. Some of us may be moved to send a donation, many of us will simply be thankful that our lives are better off. Only a few of us see those images and say this must change. Physician and medical anthropologist Paul Farmer is one of those few.

Farmer and the organization he co-founded, Partners in Health, are known internationally for providing first-world health care to some of the poorest people in the world; and in the process advocating for a concept of world health that goes far beyond a pill or vaccine.

Farmer was the subject of "Mountains Beyond Mountains," written by Pulitizer Prize-winning author Tracy Kidder. Farmer has written several books himself including "To Repair the World: Paul Farmer Speaks to the Next Generation."
