Technology has changed the way we go about our daily life.
Many of us have a smartphone within reach, others opt for a tablet. This summer we saw the explosion of wearable technology that monitors everything from your heart rate to how fast your run. In recent years, technology has assisted more and more in the classroom.
KPBS Midday Edition takes a look at the latest gadgets on sale this season and sorts through what will help San Diego students the most when they head back to school.
Emil Ahangarzadeah, the San Diego County Office of Education's director of digital solutions, said sometimes schools purchase technology without identifying carefully a need for the particular tool.
“We try to avoid the 'Ready, fire, aim' approach, which is what a lot of schools and in many cases, families and parents do as well," Ahangarzadeah said. “They go to the device first before asking themselves: ‘What is my student going to use this device for?’”
Based on the research and analysis done by the Office of Education, Ahangarzadeah said, the Chromebook "is one of the most effective tools to have in the classroom.”
