You do not have to know something about a politician about running for candidate. There is an introduction court -- course called candidate Academy. There are people taking the course. Tony is joining us from the Carlsbad Academy. Jason is also with this who is on the board of the Carlsbad Academy. The reason for starting this is to boost the candidates in North County. Is there a problem finding candidates? I don't think there is a problem with finding people, is just finding what were. And who wants to ask anybody for money. We want to help work them through that there. Reporter: Is this for anybody in the country or just in the county. Know this is for anybody. What will you be teaching. They better get used to speaking in front of large people because we will be focusing on that. Some people don't even know when they are supposed to and what it means to run for office and why would she want to do that. Sometimes we get in trouble because we think that they could do it we can. That you actually have to do one thing at a time. Haiti need to surround yourself with what is that team needs to look at. And who you want to see how else were. They know right now that everybody is time poverty. It is now on Thursday from forces say to a half hours. Do you think someone can learn to be a successful pause petition or is it someone that is naturally entertaining. Like disharmony her brain how they can do it over there is for local services or whatever. That I have seen them be successful because they have a particular issue because the credibility CMI covers have confidence in them to deliver something that is important to them. You can look at some that is light China but his get lots of attention. Best working from the local community is a bit part of this.'s tonight you will be working with the temples of this section. If they want to run for office what they need to know. You have to file paperwork to a certified candidates. And a few less one of these deadlines, it's over before Unitas started. I know that the city Linux try to you actually nice to part of the water monitoring the deadline. And deceive the. To practice committee oversees an practices and can you accept a corporate, abusive versus a personal contribution.-UBS in a zoo in the day they become a candidates, they make sure that they are sitting out alive through you want to listen to the ones that have something to say& So what they have to say. What about the ones that are just starting out in knots in a high -- high profile area, like school or something like that You're never going to have enough money to do all of that saying -- sitting want peace is not nice to the human. Because we haven't the amount of digital station. It is a costs they have been engaged to see what they saw a and there's nothing better than knocking on the door and the candidates introducing themselves and tell them why you were -- line road. Is to say a research effort is safe to Livermore hopefully we're hoping to have been. It will help the offense I wonder who is behind these academies. On this in order to you have to have that in your state so they can have two hands is the -- if you have it in place then you have to do that is just his essay part of this besides Jasons leave them alone. We are providing information and resources. Will have registered Mexico we have our colleges involved we have for representatives to public survey asking so many local offices and to retreat candidate for all the offices and I imagine the Democratic Party is to the same thing. There were question is not having the same candidate but quality candidates. We don't get the highest quality that we could that is focused on a business career and this is something I have not paid attention to in this may open the door to say this is a simple thing to do after all and I can do this. Not Beaman able to find candidates to run for office is something that the San Diego Mayor is facing next year. We have not found any Democrat candidates --. I thought it was because of his dedicated service [ Laughter ]. Do you think this is good for the obligatory all process? I do. Often the facts and the truths get muddied up in the tit-for-tat. When there is an official party they units and are facing a good job with this is the time 5% and he got 65% approval rating. I think it will have plenty at the reservation level to entertain us if we've been robbed of the opportunity for candidacy. That is something that this candidate see is trying to revive. HQS back to what Jason had said before. We want the candidates is not something you just wake up and say President Bush racial not the fact that he was highly decorated but that he did the political a straw city without doing a great. He felt confused MS would people remembered and that's the same. He probably would have been a. We want those folks that want to do this to and we want people to take this very seriously. Suing allies who will have we just from the beginning. For the application process there is a fee we need to, we're up to 12 potential candidates. How many do you want? 27 ends up being the magic number. We're bringing back a program that we brought years ago will says the this you know what it was. The hope which way back how to get people to listen to you one step at a time. As you say, the deadline has been extended to December the a.m. I has figure was to just the strategist. Thank you very much. You're welcome and thank you for having us.

The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce is reaching out to people who want to run for public office with a Candidate’s Academy next month.

The academy will take place over four weeks starting Oct. 8. Session topics include "developing the passion," "nuts and bolts," "messaging, marketing and the media," and "today's challenges and tomorrow's opportunities."

"We're going to take them through the nuts and bolts," Toni Padron, executive vice president and COO of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, told KPBS Midday Edition on Tuesday. "We want them to understand what they're getting themselves into — what it means to run for office."

Jason Roe, a San Diego political consultant who has worked for San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, said not everyone is born to be a politician.

"There are definitely people born to do these things — say presidents like Bill Clinton who are just naturally talented," Roe said. "There are a lot of things that prevent people from ever being candidates."

Registration for the academy closes on Sept. 15 and it costs $149.
