The former Director of Security for the Mayor of Tijuana was found strangled to death in his car over the weekend. Forensic experts say someone had also injected him with a mixture of heroine and cocaine. KPBS Reporter Amy Isackson has details.
In addition to having been head of security for Mayor Jorge Hank Rhon, Enrique Fuerte Mateos was also a police chief for one of Tijuana's neighborhood precincts. But he had been demoted recently because cadavers turned up in his district.
A few months back, Tijuana's Director of Public Security began demoting police chiefs if bodies were found in their jurisdiction to try to put a stop to Tijuana's rising murder rate.
Authorities say Fuerto Mateos had been on medical leave from the police force until 10 days ago. Though they won't say why he was on disability.
The Director of Public Security recently called for an investigation of the agency that grants officers medical leave over concerns doctors were handing out bogus excuses to policemen. Amy Isackson, KPBS news.
