San Diego City School Board members voted to revoke the charter of an independent school during their monthly meeting Tuesday. District officials say the school's administrators were mishandling money and not delivering quality programs. KPBS Reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.
Randolph Leadership Academy in southeastern San Diego and has been a charter school a year. But this spring the school district learned Randolph's key administrators were misappropriating and mismanaging public money. An investigation found that to be true. San Diego's assistant superintendent Gino Flores says other charter violations were also discovered.
Flores: "Fiscal issues are some, some instructional programs are another, they had uncredentialed teachers and there were some conflict of interest issues that the district raised with the charter school."
Flores says one of those issues involved a Randolph administrator who was also hired to manage the school's finances. The school district has the legal right to revoke a charter if the school isn't meeting its educational and financial goals. Ana Tintocalis, KPBS News.
