New school superintendent discusses student achievement gap

About 40 percent of Black and Latino students in California never finish high school. State officials say that number might be even higher because they have no accurate way of measuring the dropout rate. As San Diego County's new schools superintendent Randy Ward starts his job today he spoke with KPBS Morning Anchor Dwane Brown about the student achievement gap and the difficulties he faced as a state receiver in turning around the $60 million deficit in the Oakland School system.
