Reporters Sentenced to Prison for Protecting Sources in Steroids Scandal

On Monday, a federal judge sentenced two San Francisco Chronicle reporters to up to 18 months in prison for refusing to reveal the name of a source who leaked grand jury testimony about steroid use by top athletes. The judge’s sentence is currently on appeal. The reporters in question are Lance Williams and Mark Fainaru Wada of the San Francisco Chronicle. They are the co-authors of a ground breaking book on steroid use by athletes called Game of Shadows . In 2004, they wrote a series of articles about grand jury testimony by some top athletes, including Barry Bonds, about steroid use. Guest
