A new poll shows the gap is increasing between Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democrat Phil Angelides in the race for Governor. Sacramento Reporter Jenny O’Mara has the story.
Among likely voters, Schwarzenegger holds an 18-point lead over Democrat Phil Angelides. That’s according to a Public Policy Institute of California survey that last month showed a margin of 17 points. A Schwarzenegger campaign spokesman credits the Governor’s increase to his promotion of public works ballot proposals. But Survey Director Mark Baldassare says voters are also tuning out because candidates aren’t talking about issues important to them. He says 60 percent of those surveyed are dissatisfied.
Baldassare: Immigration and education continue to be on the top of the list of this survey as they have been all election year as the issues that voters most want to hear the candidates talk about.
A spokesman for the Angelides campaign says the PPIC’s findings are inconsistent with other polls that show the Governor with only a single digit lead.
