Mayor Sanders Considers Water and Sewer Service Rate Increase
Tom Fudge : Yesterday San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders provided details of a proposal to raise water and sewer rates over the next few years. The city’s sewer system is slowly falling into disrepair. San Diego now needs to replace many miles of old sewer and water pipes.
Unlike many aspects of municipal infrastructure, the city can't just let this stuff slide. Water quality regulations require San Diego to make improvements, or face some hefty fines. In the meantime, the city is settling a lawsuit for overcharging residential sewer customers, and undercharging businesses.
