The search for a U.S. citizen who may have been wrongly deported to Tijuana continues. 29-year-old Pedro Guzman has been missing for a month. KPBS reporter Amy Isackson has details.
In April, Pedro Guzman was arrested for trespassing in Los Angeles. His mother, Maria Carbajal, says he was sentenced to 120 days in jail. But a month later, she got a call from Pedro saying he'd been deported to Tijuana.
She hasn't heard from him since May 11th.
Carbajal says her son was born in Los Angeles. The family is suing the U.S. government for wrongly deporting him.
Lorena Blanco works at the U.S. Consulate in Tijuana. She says consular officials have twice called Tijuana hospitals, jails and the morgue.
Blanco : With negative results. We're looking at going over to shelters where people are normally deported to, to see if this person has been seen.
Two shelters and Tijuana's immigration office have no record of Guzman. His family says he's mentally disabled and gets lost easily.
