The state Office of Education released its annual Academic Performance Report today. It shows test scores for San Diego schools are better than average, but still aren't good enough. KPBS reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.
San Diego Unified posted a slight gain on the state's Academic Performance Index...the index shows whether schools are actually improving from year to year based on standardized test scores. San Diego's score rose to 735. That's up four points.
Even so, the district itself is well short of meeting the desired performance target of 800. State Superintendent Jack O'Connell says school districts like San Diego are moving in the right direction.
O'Connell : I still believe we have tremendous potential at raising the bar for those students who continue to lag behind.
San Diego schools fared better in the state's accountability system than in the federal system. The report indicates the district failed to satisfy all of the federal academic benchmarks.
