Tom Fudge : Remember Pete Seeger? If you're my age or older the overwhelming answer would be “yes.” He's an icon of the 20th Century folk music revival, and he's still in this world. Today he's 88 years old.
When you think about Pete Seeger, you're likely to think about politics as much as you think about music. His politics were left wing, and at one time conservative forces in San Diego tried to prevent him from performing at Hoover High School. Seeger was a part of the Civil Rights Movement, the Anti-Vietnam War Movement. Many people believe that he was a communist, during at least part of his life.
Journalist David King Dunaway has spent a substantial part of his career writing about Pete Seeger. His biography is called How Can I Keep From Singing?: The Ballad of Pete Seeger , and it has just come out in a revised edition.
