La Gaviota Takes Inspiration From Chekhovs The Seagull
Tom Fudge: What if you took a play by Chekov and set it in Mexico? That must have been a question that occurred to the people at San Diego's Ion Theater , because that's what they've done. The play is called La Gaviota and it's written by Claudio Raygoza, who is artistic director for the Ion Theater Company. The play takes the basic story line of Chekov's The Seagull , changes the setting and gives it some Mexican characters.
Ion Theatre Company's play La Gaviota runs through May 17 at the Academy of Performing Arts in Mission Valley.
