November Ballot Measures

OK, we know you just finished voting in the June primary, but the controversial ballot measures for November are already stacking up. Nine have qualified for the ballot and it's not over yet. Marianne Russ has a rundown.

November is shaping up to be a real doozy. There's a divisive constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. And another controversial and familiar measure to require parental notification for minors who want to get an abortion. There's an initiative to change the treatment of farm animals and another requiring utilities to get more power from renewable energy. There are a couple of bond measures, too: A nearly $1 billion children's hospital bond and the nearly $10 billion high speed rail bond. There are also several public safety related measures: one deals mostly with drug offenders, another with gangs. And if that's not enough for you, an initiative to change the way political districts are drawn and another aimed at increasing the rights of crime victims are also likely to qualify in the near future.

A big decision awaits some voters this July as the race for San Diego County’s Supervisor District 1 seat heats up. Are you ready to vote? Check out the KPBS Voter Hub to learn about the candidates, the key issues the board is facing and how you can make your voice heard.
