Residents of Carlsbad, Vista, and Oceanside have one more week to vote on a bond measure to expand and upgrade Tri-City Medical Center . Voters in the hospital district must mail in their ballot by August 26th. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story.
The 589-million dollar bond measure would pay for a phased upgrade of Tri-City Medical Center over the next few years. It would also help the facility meet current earthquake standards.
Opponents agree the hospital needs a facelift, but say raising property taxes to do it is wrong.
Kelli Moors is with the Yes on A campaign. She says there's no other way.
Kelli Moors: :A healthcare district is not able to levy a sales tax the way that a city, municipality can. This is a very typical way for a school district or a healthcare district to obtain money for facilities improvements.
Prop A needs a two-thirds majority vote to pass. North County voters narrowly rejected two similar Tri-City bond measures in 2006.
