Voters in Carlsbad, Vista, and Oceanside have rejected a 589-million dollar bond measure to upgrade Tri-City Medical Center . It's the third time in the last two years the hospital district has seen their bond measure go down to defeat. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.
District officials thought the third time would be the charm.
They got a lot of community input on the bond before putting it before the voters. Then the district decided to hold the election by mail, so that voters could concentrate on this issue alone.
Kelli Moors worked on the campaign. She's concerned about the fate of the hospital.
Kelli Moors: I'm very afraid that we're going to lose top-notch medical staff, because they don't see the potential for this facility to have the best medical tools for them to do their jobs and help the community. I don't know what's going to happen next, that's not a question I have an answer for.
Supporters say Tri-City badly needs improvements. Parts of the facility date from the Eisenhower administration.
