San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders marked the one-year anniversary of the devastating wildfires of 2007 with a trip to Rancho Bernardo where he visited the newly-rebuilt home of Neil and Barbara Levine. They had just finished a two-year remodeling project on their home when the fire destroyed it.
Hundreds of other homes were lost in Rancho Bernardo. Sanders says only about half of the homes lost in last year's fires have been rebuilt in the City of San Diego.
Sanders: Insurance companies don't make money by giving it away, and I think they've been pretty tough on people. And that's something that we knew was going to happen. And I think that some people have done very well. Other people were probably underinsured so my heart really goes out to those are still struggling to get it done.
The Levines will start moving into their new home in the next few days.
