Issa Proposes Financial Commission

Republican Congressmen Darrell Issa and Brian Bilbray want Congress to create a bipartisan commission to investigate the financial crisis. Peter Granitz reports from Capitol Hill.

Issa says the financial turmoil is an economic nine-eleven. And just as Congress responded by creating the 9/11 commission, he is proposing the Financial Oversight Commission.

It would consist of five democratic and five republican financial experts.

Issa: "All bureaucracies are very good at saying we've got the problem handled until the next time it happens. That's the reason we're really calling for this commission, is to get beyond Members the House, the Senate, and the next administration, no matter who's party."

The commission would report on the role of government and the private sector in the meltdown and the government's response.

Bilbray was on hand for the press conference, but no democrats. Both Bilbray and Issa voted twice against the financial bailout bill that later passed.
