San Diego County's only booze-friendly beach last summer will have a dry season this year. The state is banning alcohol at Silver Strand State Beach near Coronado from March 16 to Sept. 30 this year.
The move comes after a rowdy, beer-fueled Fourth of July weekend last year, followed by a calmer Labor Day weekend when a brief, experimental booze ban was put in place.
State Park south sector superintendent Clay Phillips says Silver Strand doesn't want to be known as "the island for drunkards."
The alcohol status of some of the county's beaches has yet to be determined for this summer, after most banned booze last year.
