Ground Contamination Clean Up Lagging

Maureen Cavanaugh : Like the question of where to put a new airport in San Diego, the cleanup of a petroleum spill at the Kinder Morgan tank farm just north of Qualcomm stadium is taking on aspects of a generational saga. The first cleanup order was issued in 1992. Now it's hoped the spill will be cleaned up by 2013.

There's been lots of legal wrangling over the years, and Kinder Morgan has repeatedly missed cleanup deadlines. KPBS investigative reporter Amita Sharma continues her series on the ongoing effort to clean up the spill, also known as the plume, of tens of thousands of gallons of gasoline that has seeped down into the earth and the aquifer under the Qualcomm stadium parking lot.
