For Hunter-Gault, the News Out of Africa is Good
Maureen Cavanaugh : The continent of Africa is often seen through Western eyes as a land of drought, dictators and disease. Media coverage of the nations of Africa is sporadic and focused on disaster, so there are many things about Africa we haven't seen.
My guest, reporter Charlayne Hunter-Gault, says one of the important things we've missed is nothing less than an African renaissance. She says the movement to improve the politics, economy and the cultural life of many African nations is under-reported and often misunderstood.
Charlayne Hunter-Gault will lecture as part of
UCSD's Helen Edison Lecture Series
on Friday, February 6, 2009, at 7 p.m.
