By the end of today, the November election ballots for San Diego county will be set in stone -- or at least in permanent typeface.
Today is the County Registrar of Voters' deadline for the courts to change the language of the election ballot. County Registrar Deborah Seiler said the deadline is not a matter of law, but local judges have always followed it, and she does not expect any last-minute intervention by the courts. She said everything that will appear on the ballot should be determined today.
"All of the candidates, the various contests, the candidates ballot designations," said Seiler. "And how the language of the measures, the state and local measures, would appear on the ballot."
Foes of Proposition D, which would raise the sales tax in San Diego, failed in their court bid to get the proposition removed from the ballot.
Next Wednesday they will ask a judge to change language in the sample ballots, which are mailed to voters, that describes the fiscal impact of Prop. D reforms.
