Jacobs Releases Video Promoting His Balboa Park Plan

Philanthropist Irwin Jacobs released a video today depicting his plan to get vehicles out of Balboa Park's central plaza.

Mayor Jerry Sanders attended the showing of the video, and declared the proposal to remake Plaza de Panama a "truly elegant plan." However, a group of San Diego preservationists opposes Jacobs' ideas.

Bruce Coons, who is with the Save Our Heritage Organization, prefers the Balboa Park makeover go to a citywide vote.

"The citizens of San Diego should decide what's going to happen there, not one person," Coons said.
