Chapter Thirteen

Chapter Synopsis

The group arrive at the Indians’ home. Tacho bought a bottle of rum as a thank you gift and he and Porfirio are guzzling it down. Araceli makes them all dinner. The girls sleep on an old, hard bunk bed, while Tacho sleeps on a blanket on the floor. At dawn, Nayeli, who had trouble sleeping, wakes up and wanders outside. Nayeli walks out into the dump to the graves of the children who have been lost there. She picks some flowers and lays them on the graves, picking up trash and straightening them out as she goes. A man behind her yells for her attention. She ignores him and he tells her this is a mistake.
