Council President Todd Gloria, other local elected officials and business leaders met with Mexico leaders Wednesday in an overall effort to maintain their binational relationship.

Interim Mayor Todd Gloria on the set of KPBS Evening Edition.

They discussed the San Diego Convention Center expansion, construction at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, and of course the controversy surrounding San Diego Mayor Bob Filner.

Gloria said Tijuana Mayor Carlos Bustamante and Mayor-Elect Jorge Astiazarán Orci are concerned about the situation with the mayor, who has worked to strengthen the bond between the two cities.

“I did my best to reassure them that their success is our success, and that we are fully committed to making sure that we continue to do what we can to strengthen ties on economy, security, on transportation and other key issues,” said Gloria.

The one-day meeting was Gloria’s second visit to Tijuana this year.
