We're sorry. This audio clip is no longer available.

Celebrating the importance of literacy and language, a San Diego fundraiser will honor alumni of the San Diego Community College District and help raise money for “Friends Of A Way With Words,” a nonprofit that produces the public radio program, "A Way with Words."

Former San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders and county Tax-Collector Dan McAllister are among the honorees at the Thursday event called “In A Word.”

Show hosts Martha Barnett and Grant Barrett will lead the festivities. They talk about the fundraiser and their popular radio show Wednesday on Midday Edition.

The fundraiser starts Thursday at 6 p.m., at the DoubleTree Hotel in Mission Valley at 7450 Hazard Center Drive in San Diego.

For more information and tickets, go to the San Diego Community College District website.
