Two stone-cold cases of murder test the wits of crime-solving duo DCI Cassie Stuart and DS Sunny Khan, played by Nicola Walker (LAST TANGO IN HALIFAX) and Sanjeev Bhaskar (INDIAN SUMMERS), in back-to-back seasons of the critically acclaimed UK crime series UNFORGOTTEN, airing on MASTERPIECE, Sundays, April 8 through May 13 at 9 p.m. on PBS.
The Telegraph (London) called UNFORGOTTEN’s opening episodes “the gateway to a labyrinth of absorbingly interconnected lives,” adding that Walker and Bhaskar portray “two of the most credibly ordinary cops currently on the TV beat.”
The Australian (Sydney) singled out screenwriter Chris Lang as “a cunning master of parallel plotting. Compelling stuff.”
The Independent (London) lauded the remarkable supporting cast of “unforgotten and unforgettable actors.”
Also appearing in Season 1 are Gemma Jones ("Bridget Jones’s Diary"), Trevor Eve (DEATH COMES TO PEMBERLEY), Cherie Lunghi ("Mary Shelley's Frankenstein"), Bernard Hill (WOLF HALL), Hannah Gordon (UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS), and Ruth Sheen ("Another Year").
Season 1 opens with a human skeleton found beneath a basement. The remains could be centuries old — or four decades, as comes to light upon further investigation of the crime scene.
Cassie and Sunny eventually discover the victim was a young man, Jimmy Sullivan and his nearly-disintegrated pocket diary leads the detectives to a list of names that may hold the key to solving the murder.
The list of names includes Sir Phillip Cross (Eve), a mobster who bribed his way into the aristocracy; Father Robert Greaves (Hill), a beloved vicar with a dark secret; Lizzie Wilton (Sheen), a reformed skinhead; and Eric Slater (Courtenay), an elderly, disabled bookkeeper taking care of his wife, Claire (Jones), who is suffering from dementia.
They lead very different lives, but something links them, something that explains Jimmy’s final resting place and the torture marks found on his bones.
Episode 1 airs Sunday, April 8 at 9 p.m. - Cassie and Sunny confront a skeleton buried in a cellar. Is it ancient or more recent? Moldering clues tell them it’s a 40-year-old murder and identify suspects Father Rob, Lizzie, Sir Phillip, and Eric.
Episode 2 airs Sunday, April 15 at 9 p.m. - Cassie and Sunny dig deeper into Jimmy’s murder, which involved torture. Father Rob remembers Jimmy fondly. So does Eric. Questioned about past gangland ties, Sir Phillip refuses to cooperate.
Episode 3 airs Sunday, April 22 at 9 p.m. - The past catches up with suspects Father Rob, Lizzie, Sir Phillip and Eric. But which one is Jimmy’s killer? It takes a second cold case to solve the mystery.
