Author Judy Batalion To Speak About Hoarding Disorder’s Impact On Three Generations
Tuesday, May 29, 2018
Author Judy Batalion grew up with a mother who had a hoarding disorder. Once Batalion was out of her mother's house, she created a life very different from the one in which she grew up.
The minimalist, ordered life she cultivated was challenged when she herself became a mother. She writes about this experience in her memoir, “WHITE WALLS: A Memoir about Motherhood, Daughterhood and the Mess in Between.”
An estimated two to six percent of the population experiences hoarding disorder, according to the American Psychiatric Association.
Batalion will share stories from her memoir during Jewish Family Service of San Diego’s annual luncheon on Wednesday at the La Jolla Hyatt. Money raised at the event will go to eliminating the stigma of mental illness through outreach and education.
Batalion joins Midday Edition Wednesday to talk about mental illness and motherhood.
