In 2019, the San Diego Sheriff's Department faced a number of scandals from a sexual assault trial involving a former deputy to growing criticism over the high number of deaths inside county jails.

In 2019, the San Diego Sheriff's Department faced a number of scandals from a sexual assault trial involving a former deputy to growing criticism over the high number of deaths inside county jails.

A San Diego Union-Tribune investigation found the county's rate of jail inmate deaths outpaces other large counties in California.

Meanwhile, local law enforcement is also faced with what to do about a rise in anti-Semitism and hate incidents.

San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore joined Midday Edition on Tuesday to respond to those and other issues.
