Salt. Fat. Acid. Heat.
Those are the four, basic elements that can make or break a dish, according to award-winning chef and San Diego native Samin Nosrat. "Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat" is also the title of her best-selling cookbook and her popular Nextflix documentary series.
The La Jolla High School grad, who got her start in the culinary scene at the famed Chez Panisse restaurant in Berkeley, will be in San Diego on Friday at Balboa Theatre as part of UC San Diego's ArtPower event series.
Nosrat joined Midday Edition on Thursday to talk about her San Diego upbringing and her cooking philosophy.
