The criticism comes after the City Council declined to slash police funding despite hours of public testimony, mostly from people urging council members to slash

San Diego City Councilmember Monica Montgomery held a virtual "healing" town hall last week to respond to criticism from the community.

Despite hours of public testimony, mostly from people who urged the council to make cuts to the police department, Montgomery voted in favor of a city budget that left police funding intact. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
