THE INDIAN DOCTOR is a comedy drama set in the 1960s following a high-flying Delhi graduate Dr. Prem Sharma (Sanjeev Bhaskar) and his wife Kamini's (Ayesha Dharker) new life in a Welsh coal mining town. Once in Wales, they quickly become embroiled in the lives of the villagers, although the regal Kamini is determined they are leaving as soon as possible.
In Season 1, the storyline revolves around the seemingly friendly colliery manager Richard Sharpe, and the dark secret that he has deliberately ignored safety warnings to further his own career. Evidence to this effect exists in the previous doctor's diaries, and Prem becomes determined to reveal the truth.
Episode 1: “The Arrival” airs Sunday, May 2 at 8 p.m. on KPBS TV - High-flying Delhi graduate Dr. Prem Sharma and his wife Kamini first move to the UK after being wooed by dreams of riches and glamour, only to find themselves residing in a small Welsh mining village. While Prem strikes up new friendships and settles into life in the Valleys, Kamini wants them to leave as soon as possible.
Episode 2: "The Diary" airs Sunday, May 9 at 8 p.m. on KPBS TV - Colliery manager Richard Sharpe (Mark Williams - FATHER BROWN) is desperate to get hold of a mysterious diary left behind by Prem's predecessor Dr. Elwyn, and hires local street urchin Dan Griffiths to steal the book from the surgery. However, he underestimates Kamini's attentiveness, and the lad is caught in the act, leading to a heated confrontation. Meanwhile, the doctor has an emergency of his own to deal with when he is asked to make an unusual house call.
Episode 3: “Young Hearts” airs Sunday, May 16 at 8 p.m. on KPBS TV - Kamini Sharma is still desperate to leave the village of Trefelin. But, as she tries to escape she finds herself becoming the only person who can help local tearaway Dan whose wild ways get him in trouble.
With the previous doctor's green leather diary found, Prem's friendship with Megan deepens as she translates it from Welsh into English and they realise that Dr. Elwyn's diary holds vital clues to the deteriorating health of the local miners.
When Prem questions the mine manager Sharpe about the miners' health, Sharpe tries to persuade the doctor that health hazards are just an unfortunate part of a miner's job. Meanwhile Gina, Prem's receptionist, is falling recklessly in love with Tom.
Episode 4: "The Van" airs Sunday, May 23 at 8 p.m. on KPBS TV - When a rather unusual van arrives in the village, the driver, a well-known rugby player, creates a real stir and it looks like the doctor's luck is changing for the better.
However, Richard Sharpe, the mine manager, is furious and does his best to turn the locals against the doctor and his X-ray van – although his wife, Sylvia Sharpe, is rather taken with the new driver. Meanwhile, Gina gets some shocking news and the crucial green leather diary belonging to Dr. Elwyn goes missing.
Episode 5: "The Fete" airs Sunday, May 23 at 8:45 p.m. on KPBS TV - A lot is going on behind the scenes as the fete preparations continue. Prem Sharma is preparing to leave the village and his wife Kamini goes in search of Dan who is missing. She finds more than she bargained for.
Megan pleads with Prem to stay and help the miners fight for justice and for their health. Meanwhile, Sharpe finally gets the promotion he's been chasing. Matters come to a head as Prem takes on Sharpe once and for all in front of the whole village at the annual summer fete.
This series is not available to stream on demand. It is for purchase on YouTube, Sling TV, Amazon Prime Video and Acorn TV.

In Season 2, Prem faces a new adversary: evangelist preacher Herbert Todd. In Season 3, set three years after Prem and Kamini's arrival, they have become very much a part of the Trefelin community. But their lives and those of everyone in the village are about to change when the wild and rambunctious sons of the mine owner return to bring a first real taste of the swinging '60s.
