Gary Oldman and Odette Yustman in The Stillborn... uh sorry that's The Unborn (Rogue Pictures)

The Unborn(opened January 16 through out San Diego) is a new horror film that has recently entered theaters. I am a serious horror fan and I was personally disappointed by this movie. While others in the audience were jumping off their chairs I knew without a doubt exactly what was going to happen next. This took all the fun out of the movie for me. It is just extremely predictable. This movie is about a girl who has a dream about this freaky little kid, a dog wearing a mask, and a fetus in a jar. She then starts to see weird things like giant ants or bugs and then her eyes start to change colors. Her eyes where brown and they started to turn blue. She investigates this phenomenon and finds out that she has a twin. She then proceeds to find her grandmother who tells her exactly what is going on and that she needs help immediately. & Apparently she is being haunted and needs an exorcism. She then takes the steps necessary for a proper Jewish exorcism. She goes through with it and that's the end of the movie.
I thought the movie was lame and not really that scary. It was like watching Mirrors over again with a different cast and slightly different storyline. The movie The Ring also popped in to my head because of similarities. I didn't like how in the beginning it starts off with the freaky stuff without giving any background on the story or the characters or anything for that matter. It just started off with a crazy looking kid and all the other weird stuff this girl Casey (Odette Yustman) dreams of. I disliked the fact that this movie was predictable and I could point out the exact moment everything would jump out. This scared my boyfriend that I had dragged with me to see it. He thought the movie to be thrilling and extremely scary but that's because he's a pansy and finds everything to be scary. So my recommendation for this movie is if you are a serious horror film fan then there is no need to waste your time watching it. Wait till it comes out on DVD and rent it if you really want to see it. For the faint of heart types this might actually scare you. Whether or not you will enjoy this movie depends on how much of a horror or thriller fan you are. If you are an extreme fan then be prepared to be disappointed.
