Here's the latest info from ArtPower's Film Curator Rebecca Webb:
Join ArtPower! Film and Scott Paulson and his Teeny Tiny Pit Orchestra for Silent Films on St. Valentine's night for what the LA Times calls "An out-of-the-ordinary cinematic experience!" The evening starts with pre-show music performed by Scott Paulson and his Teeny Tiny Pit Orchestra, sparkling libation and chocolaty brownies, followed by screenings of featurettes and vignettes that take place on the La Jolla shores all the way to Balboa Park in the 1920s. Audience members all get a chance to help create the sound effects!
On February 20, I will present The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and her Lover, directed by the architect turned filmmaker Peter Greenaway. As a part of the Architecture and Cinema meets "Foovies' series, see how Greenaway's film work is informed by his architecture practice. The evening promises to be a rich and filling theatrical and sensory experience. Audience members will be treated to a delectable and diverse array of tasty bites while they listen to the film composer's score by Michael Nyman performed by Scott Paulson and Christian Herzog.
This February, I am excited to launch the first ArtPower! Film online filmmaker blog. An important part of the ArtPower! Film mission is to foster and support emerging filmmakers. Alex Ruiz Euler, a UCSD political scientist graduate student, is in the process of directing, editing, and producing his first documentary that seeks to present a humanized perspective on the problems related to migration from Mexico to the U.S. We will screen works in progress and hold workshops for student filmmakers. You will get a chance to join Alex and his crew on this incredible journey towards completing their film.
As you can see, ArtPower! Film offers an exciting palette of film events that explore ideas sensorally as well as intellectually. Not to mention entertaining! Please visit our web site often for updates and to see Alex's first documentary come to fruition.
