Maureen Cavanaugh: A concert by violinist Mark O'Connor is a treat that San Diegans know and love. O'Connor called San Diego home for several years, and played often with the San Diego Symphony.
A prodigy on the country fiddle, Mark O'Connor has expanded his repertoire to jazz violin and classical composing. His Appalachia Waltz with cellist YoYo Ma is just one of his celebrated compositions.
Last summer, Mark O'Connor and members of his group, The Appalachia Waltz Trio, joined Tom Fudge in studio for some conversation and music. O'Connor was joined by Mike Block on cello and Gillian Gallagher on viola. They begin the interview by playing "Chief Sitting in the Rain/College Hornpipe." Here's that performance and interview.
