If you have never seen the 1962 film "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" (playing tonight only at 7pm at the Birch North Park Theater) now is your chance!
Nicole Kidman can take off her make up in "Rabbit Hole" and pretend she's acting in order to get the Academy's attention at Oscar time. But when Hollywood legends Bette Davis and Joan Crawford took off their glamorous visages they really delivered a shocker! "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" is one of those 1960s Gothic horror films featuring Hollywood legends. You could also find Bette Davis and Olivia DeHavilland in "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte." These films were over the top grotesqueries that were absolutely riveting and entertaining... in a darkly comic way.
"Baby Jane" is a claustrophobic, psychological thriller about an aging ex-vaudeville child star (Davis) waging a reign of terror over her crippled ex-movie star sister (Crawford). The film revitalized the careers of both stars as it delivered unexpected shocks from these once regal ladies of Hollywood. Director Aldrich makes excellent use of his confined setting and gets the best from his stars.
Davis won her 10th Academy Award nomination for her macabre portrayal of Baby Jane. This is a must see! Thanks to FilmOut for sponsoring the screening.
