“Your own health is closely connected to the health of the world around you.”Dr. Leo Galland

Host Leo Galland, M.D. is internationally recognized as a pioneer in integrative medicine, as well as for his clinical work and original research into the causes and cures for allergy. Dr. Galland, a board-certified internist, is the winner of the Linus Pauling Award, a graduate of Harvard University and New York University School of Medicine, and has taught at Albert Einstein Medical College and Stony Brook University School of Medicine, among other prestigious institutions. He has a full-time practice in Manhattan, where he has helped thousands of patients struggling with these ailments answer the question “Doctor, what is wrong with me?”

What his patients—and now public television viewers—learn are many astonishing lessons, including how fast food causes allergies. Pollen exposure can impair a person's ability to operate a car to the same extent as two cocktails would. Hidden toxins in your home can create long-term misery. But they also learn how they can change all of that and regain health.

Using Dr. Galland’s four-step program, patients have reversed their allergies by getting to the root causes, not just suppressing symptoms with drugs. In "The Allergy Solution," Dr. Galland takes viewers through the same steps he uses with the patients who come to see him from all over the world.

At the core of "The Allergy Solution" lies the four hidden truths of allergies:

  • Fast food causes allergies — eating the wrong foods disrupts the gut, which is the origin of allergies.
  • Allergies like disguises — they can manifest via symptoms not normally associated with allergy, like weight gain and fatigue.
  • Allergies hide — allergic triggers aren’t always clear cut, and often require some detective work.
  • Allergies start in your stomach — the gut is home to trillions of bacteria that have an immense impact on your immune system.

By using actual patient stories, Dr. Galland explains how to understand the allergens that live in our three key environments:

  • the outdoor environment, which has been changed through air pollution and other toxins
  • the indoor environment, which now contains millions of chemicals that sneak into our homes, leaving us unaware
  • the internal environment, primarily our gut microbiome

Dr. Galland’s steps are not difficult, and can be put into action immediately. And what’s best, every individual will be empowered by a full understanding and appreciation of the many factors that affect allergies. And as you identify and remove the triggers for your own allergies, whether in your diet or in your environment, you’ll start to rediscover a long-lost friend: your best, healthiest you.
