“The Kitchenistas Of National City” follows the struggles and transformations of the Kitchenistas as they conquer a health crisis in their community by cooking traditional dishes in a healthy way.
The Kitchenistas are graduates of the Cooking for Salud! program at Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center in National City.
They learn by doing and share what they've learned with their families and community. By changing eating habits, they are reversing disease trends.

Daisy, an 8-year old, attended a school program at Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center in National City, and encouraged her grandmother, Maria, to visit and learn new healthy cooking and eating techniques. Maria met Patty Corona-Morales, a community leader and volunteer at Olivewood Gardens, who invited her to join the program, Cooking for Salud!
