A Mexican law enforcement official says the renegade drug trafficker who declared war on Tijuana's Arellano Felix Cartel last fall is behind the recent series of attacks on Tijuana and Rosarito police.
Baja California's Attorney General Rommel Moreno said earlier this week that organized crime is behind the spate of attacks on Tijuana and Rosarito police.
Today, he said the evidence points to one person. "That's 'El Teo' and his criminal cells." (Translated from Spanish.)
"El Teo" broke away from Tijuana's Arellano Felix cartel last year and waged a war with the cartel's leader. It was the most violent and gruesome period in Tijuana's history. Authorities say since the start of the year, El Teo and the Arellano Felix Cartel leader have agreed to coexist.
Authorities say "El Teo" is killing police in retaliation because the military and Tijuana police have recently captured a handful of his high ranking lieutenants.
Five police officers have died in the recent attacks. A police woman who was seriously injured in an ambush last weekend died today.
