Two-Thirds Of Legal Residents From Mexico Have Not Applied For Citizenship

Almost two-thirds of legal residents from Mexico have not applied for United States citizenship, according to the PEW Hispanic Center.

Their low rate of naturalization, at 36 percent, is a startling figure when compared to other immigrant groups in the country. From the study, “(the percentage) is only half that of legal immigrants from all other countries combined."

A nationwide survey of Hispanic immigrants by the Pew Hispanic Center finds that more than nine-in-ten (93%) who have not yet naturalized say they would if they could.

This summer, Hispanics are projected to surpass whites as largest ethnic majority group in California
