California Governor Jerry Brown believes Pacific Rim leaders can fight unemployment by focusing on climate change. The Governor spoke to political and business leaders at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference, or APEC, in San Francisco Tuesday. He said the two challenges go hand-in-hand.
“It’s time for a war on unemployment; find the jobs and do so by investing in the renewable energy, the efficiency technologies, the innovative transportation, the land-use policies,” said Brown.
Brown said political leaders seem to have forgotten about global warming, but he remarked, “global warming hasn’t forgotten about us.”
The APEC conference is focused on transportation and energy. It includes hundreds of people from the public and private sectors and political leaders from along the Pacific Rim. The agenda includes topics such as shifting from petroleum-based fuels to electric vehicles and bio-fuels.
