San Diego Clean Up Nets 100,000 Pounds Of Trash
About 5,500 volunteers helped pick up trash in San Diego's canyons and creek-beds this past weekend.
Volunteers picked up more than 100,000 pounds of trash during the Creek to Bay clean-up "I Love A Clean San Diego" put together the effort. The weather cooperated and the clean-up provided its unique surprises.
"We had a volunteer along the San Diego River find a five gallon bucket of pickles," said Morgan Justice-Black, of I Love A Clean San Diego. "We had a volunteer find a bowling pin. Somebody found a toilet and also a rocking horse in a canyon."
This was the tenth year for the clean-up. Justice-Black said organizers hope picking up trash away from the beach, will keep it from ending up there.
