This map of San Diego County shows the latest projected wind speeds for Friday and Saturday, as of Dec. 2, 2016.

Strong and potentially damaging Santa Ana winds will spread throughout San Diego County starting Friday.

National Weather Service wind advisories for the mountains, valleys and deserts will remain in effect from 9 a.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday. Winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour and gusts up to 50 mph are expected.

Forecasters said gusts could reach 60 mph along coastal mountain slopes.

The winds may make for hazardous driving conditions, especially for motorists in high-profile vehicles. Forecasters said "blowing dust, tree damage, minor structural damage and extreme cross-winds'' would be possible along portions of Interstate 5.

Sustained wind speeds of 40 mph or more or gusts of at least 58 mph can cause property damage.

The offshore winds will begin to dissipate Saturday afternoon, followed by warmer weather and only light winds on Sunday. However, forecasters said another round of moderate to potentially strong offshore winds would be possible later next week.
